Zimbabwe Women Claim Final Spot with Win Over Tanzania

Zimbabwe Women scored a 91-win run over Tanzania in their final group match against Tanzania on Saturday, securing their place in the tournament final. Zimbabwe set a target of 167 for Tanzania to chase, with Sharne Maters (47*) and Ashley Ndiraya (43) doing most of the work; Zena Hassan took 4/30 for Tanzania. In reply, though, Tanzania never got close, bowled out for 76 in the 42nd over, with Precious Marange leading Zim's bowling with 4/10. The win left Zimbabwe level on points with Kenya after the final group round, but with a significantly better Net Run Rate. Zimbabwe now meet South Africa again in the final on Sunday, while the 3rd-place playoff will be between Kenya and Uganda. Full scorecard below the cut.

Zim Women's Side Headed for Tanzania?

The Citizen of Tanzania reports that a Zimbabwe U19 women's side is set to take part in a 30-overs-a-side tournament in the country. The tourney is scheduled to be held between 22-26 October, and will also feature sides from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Zambia:

Tanzania Cricket Association Chairman, Zulfikar Rehemtullah said yesterday that all participating teams would jet in on October 20, resting in the subsequent day before the start.

The 30-over tournament is exclusive for the ladies teams aged below 19 years and aimed at promoting the sport in the region. The tournament would be held in the venues of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Leaders Club and Annadil Burhan.

The tournament is to be held under the auspices of the African Cricket Association, the ICC's regional development body, and so seems to have official backing.

Zimbabwe Women Sweep World Cup Qualifiers

While the mens' team were on the receiving end of a whitewash in Bangladesh, the women have been in Kenya and enjoying success at the World Cup qualifying tournament, completing a clean sweep of their three matches to ensure their place inthe next qualifying round.
