Zim / Afghanistan Fixture Confirmed

The dates of the Intercontinental Cup match between Zimbabwe XI and Afghanistan have been confirmed - the tie will be played in Mutare between August 16-19, after which Afghanistan will go on to meet Netherlands between August 24-27. That means that any hope of using the tie as a warm-up for the senior team's series against Bangladesh goes out the window (the 4th and 5th ODIs are being played during the same period). The choice of venue is worth noting - in days gone by, Mutare and Kwekwe were often the venues of choice for 'A' internationals, but that tradition had died out in the past few years. Seems ZC may be reviving it now.

ZC Confirm Bangladesh to Visit in August, Tri-Series "Still On"

ZC's Ozias Bvute has confirmed to the Zimbabwe Independent that Bangladesh will visit for a 5 ODI series in August - all matches will be played in Bulawayo. Bvute is also insistent that the tri-series featuring India will go ahead as planned, although it has been pushed back from July to September. He also couldn't yet name the tournament's third side:

"India are definitely coming. We are currently in negotiations with two other boards to hold that tri-series just before the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa."

Zim 'A' to Face Canada, Ireland

Zimbabwe 'A' will now be facing Canada, although just for a single match, which will take place in South Africa on March 24th. The side will then meet Ireland on the 26th. Both matches are part of the warm-ups for the ICC World Cup Qualifiers, and will take place in Benoni.

As the schedules currently stand, this would mean that the 'A' side players would be unavailable for the first round of the Logan Cup, but I'd half-expect the Logan Cup dates to be shifted to accommodate these games. We'll soon see.

An updated fixture list for the Logan Cup has been released by ZC - see our Domestic Fixtures page for full details.

Canada Visit Cancelled

Cricket Canada have cancelled their side's planned trip to Zimbabwe, citing an inability to field a competitive side and the Candadian Government's current "health warning" on visiting Zimbabwe. Given that the trip was intended to be part of Canada's warm-up for the World Cup Qualifiers in South Africa, it seem unlikely that the competitiveness of their side would be an issue - unless Canada are admitting that their side isn't fit for ODI status, which I would doubt - so it looks as though politics have once again thrown a spanner in the works.
